When an Apple Just Won’t Do: Celebrate Your Teacher ALL Month Long!

Eleanor Roosevelt first persuaded Congress in 1953 to proclaim a National Teacher Day, which they did….in 1980. The National Education Association then observed Teacher Day on the first Tuesday in March until 1985, when the National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week as the first full week of May. The NEA Representative Assembly then voted to make the Tuesday of that week National Teacher Day.

Teachers touch the lives of millions of children and their families. These kind, patient, hard-working, and dedicated professionals share their knowledge and mold their students every day. They are able to assess and educate each student according to a variety of needs and circumstances. They usually work with more than 20 students in each class and have a whole new set of students rotate through each year. Their workweek averages 52 hours with 30 hours on instruction and 22 hours spent grading and organizing lessons. Their work and impact also extends beyond the boundaries of the classroom. They boost confidence, lend an ear or a hand when needed, and give large amounts of their personal time and supplies to ensure their students are cared for and prepared.

How can we thank these people who give so much? Show your appreciation and recognize the teachers in your life for their passion for education and the contribution they make to countless lives. Say “thank you” to a single special teacher or an entire school. A great way to let them know that they are appreciated for all that they do, is to provide a special catered lunch from Buca di Beppo. We’ll even do all the work! Besides supplying the most mouth-watering, plate scraping, delicious Italian favorites, we’ll also bring the plates, utensils, and napkins. No organizing and deciding who will bring what, we’ve got it all taken care of!

Another option is our gift cards and e-gift cards. These come in values starting at $10 and go up to $200 with no expiration dates or service fees. Grab a bunch and hand them out to all of your favorite teachers or coordinate with classmates to get a higher value gift card. The National Education Association describes National Teacher Day “as day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives”. With all that they do, be sure to show your favorite teachers how much you care with a gift of Buca!  We are celebrating ALL month!
